After 25 years of combined experience in the yachting industry, we are excited to introduce you to Venture Yacht Crew, our new crew placement agency that we’ve built from the ground up. We’ve created a platform that’s specifically designed to meet the needs of the yachting world – and we’re proud to announce we’re now MLC-certified. 

Like many of you, our team started our yachting careers the usual way – staying in crew houses in Antibes, a stack of CVs, and walking the docks hunting for that first job. While the industry has certainly changed over the years with social media and job boards, one thing hasn’t: the effort it takes to get that first break into the industry. 

Over the years we’ve worked with a number of crew agencies, but we quickly realized that not all of them were up to scratch. Often, we felt like just another number in their system, not a professional with years of experience. We’d fill out web forms and hear nothing back or receive job listings that didn’t match what we were looking for. Sound familiar? We’re sure many of you have been through the same frustrations. 

And when we made it to head of department level, the frustration didn’t end. Agencies still weren’t providing the right candidates – we’d receive CVs for people who hadn’t even been contacted about the role, or worse, candidates who were already working elsewhere. They just seemed to be eager to throw a handful of CV’s at us to try and secure a quick fee. 

And that’s when Venture Yacht Crew was created. 

We’ve designed our platform to be simple, user-friendly, and MLC-compliant. We only ask for what’s needed – your CV and the basic info to keep everything compliant with the regulations. When we’ve got a job that matches your qualifications and preferences, we’ll give you a call to make sure it’s the right fit before shortlisting you for it, and if you see something advertised on our website, you can apply with just a few clicks. No long forms to fill out. One thing we’re proud of is our commitment to communication. If you apply for a role and are shortlisted, you’ll be kept in the loop every step of the way, and if you’re not successful, we’ll share feedback with you. 

Throughout our yachting careers, we’ve all heard stories of unacceptable behavior onboard yachts and crew members who are let go for various reasons, only to land on another boat a week later. Many seasoned yachties have their “on my last boat” stories - and we have a few of our own. To address this, we’ve made it one of our goals to find a way to screen for such behavior during our recruitment process. We are excited to announce our partnership with Crew Pass, and we cover the cost of this screening for every candidate we place on a yacht. 

We feel comprehensive background checks should be a standard in the superyacht industry as they already are in many shore-based industries to ensure the safety of both crew and guests. By identifying any prior convictions that may indicate risks, such as theft, fraud, sexual or violent behavior we aim to lower the chance of incidents happening on-board which are harmful to both crewmembers, guests and the vessel's reputation.

Crew members interact closely with high-net-worth individuals, their families, and guests - often including children. This proximity, along with access to valuable assets and sensitive information, underscores the importance of thorough vetting. 

Venture Yacht Crew are partnering with CrewPass to offer comprehensive pre-employment screening, including background checks and certification verification, for all crew members placed. By covering the cost of CrewPass for all of the candidates we place, we demonstrate our commitment to safety and integrity in the yachting industry.
